Fact Check: Third Of The World NOT Slavic Not A Third

Is a third of the world Slavic? No, that's not true: Whether counting by land mass or population, the world isn't a third Slavic. The total surface of land on Earth is 148,940,000 square kilometers. There are 13 predominantly Slavic countries in the world (full list below) that together cover 17,916,306 square kilometers of land (calculated from information from the CIA World Factbook). That means Slavic countries cover roughly 12 percent of the Earth's land surface.

Regarding population, there are around 360 million Slavic people living inside Slavic countries and abroad. That's 4.5 percent of the world's population, which is 8 billion.

The claim appeared in a video (archived here) on TikTok by @ondromlynarcik on June 18, 2023. In a graphic on the bottom right of the TikTok it stated:

A third of the Earth is Slavic!
